Not necessary, check will continue regardless of engine running or not.

Nope, never !
The system check is just an animation to distract you while the cluster waits for the various modules to transmit the packet data over the SW Can....
It actually is not a check at all, and the cluster will alert you if there are any problems, regardless if you wait or don't wait for the system check to complete....

Thanks for making my day though ! Ive been having a bad day, and I had a good laugh at this :)

I know what you mean Troy, my missus leaves the sun visor at half way 'whack' as I get in!

Also don't remember the last time I purchased a CD lol, had my VE over a year and never put a CD in!

Nope, I found on my first drive that it went through with the check anyway, and have never waited for it.
