Ok guys this is the easiest way I could find to clean your pickup

The simplest way to clean your pickup properly is to simply use a hoist to raise your engine.
1: undo the appropriate wiring
2: undo one engine mount from the side and undo the other mount from the bottom
3: disconnect your headers and raise your enigne a far as it will go
4: unbolt your sump and slide it out (dont forget to drain it first)
5: clean your pickup and put it all back together.

DO NOT UNBOLT YOUR K FRAME (crossmember) OR ANY SUSPENSION, STEERING COMPONENTS. This is a complete waist of time

Hope this saves alot of ppl alot of time

might be a silly question....
but why do you need to clean your pickup....?
I have seen Holden V8 engines go 300,000kms or more
without anything like that (just oil and filter changes)

you losing camshaft lobes or something else dumping filings in the sump?
which can clog the oil pickup

cheers

Thanks for that info, I would have just pulled the K-Frame out, By the time it would take me to undo my extractors and wiring. Would be just as fast for me to unbolt the K-Frame anyway.

Cheers,
Jim

definatley not pulling the k frame out still requires the mounts to be removed but if you have a look there is alot of steering and suspension bolted to it wich would suck up your time pointlesly.

The reason i posted this was because when i had oil pressure probs the only other way i could find on the net was to pull the k frame out.

from the day of drinking and doing it it woulda taken me twice as long to get that sucker out.

not to mention putting it back in.... just have a look and you will know what i mean

Mate of myn has a v8 statesman, driving along one day enigine oil light comes on, kills the ignition and rolls it to the side of the road. checks everything to do with the oil "without tools and on side of road". starts the car back up drives along no oil light, 10 mins later BANG! engine grenaded turns out a bit of crud got stuck in the oil pickup.

1 engine re-build later it was back on the road, he wasnt to annoyed though because he got to have the engine worked ;)

I wasn't disagreeing, I reckon good idea, saves pulling K-Frame out. Yeah I agree with you on the suspension part.
