I get very annoyed when I hear of "sporting heroes." What crap. The word "hero" is too often misused.

Men like Bob Cowper are the heroes. We can only imagine what they endured, and they never made a song and dance about it. They spent the best years of their young lives never knowing if each day might be their last. When the survivors came home, they picked up where they left off years before and got on with their lives. Dignified, quiet and unassuming, not seeking adulation and wanting no fuss made.
