I'd never turned it off in the VX we use to have
Until I tried to drive out of a mates place with a sloped and water logged semi grass covered driveway and I didn't get very far

I think the missus vx TC is stuffed. Pissing down a few weeks ago and coming around a merg turn, when next thing I notice the car was pointing towards the fence line ...wtf.... counter steered and put a bit more power in, then bang it snaps violently in the opposite direction power comes off and snaps back the other way..scared the crap out of me because at no point was I in any way in control....

Turn it off after I start the car, unless it’s raining

I Drive a VR, traction control button hadn't been invented.
If it gets loose, it is controlled and predictable.
Paying good money for decent tyres is my traction control.

they should relabel it "hektik skids" and you'd understand it better.

there's a very good reason the default position is "on".
I live on a dirt road. I came to offer the above advice but was beaten to it.

I also spend lots of time on dirt roads. The wh I had would cut out all the time, especially around slow corners like pulling out of a driveway. Definitely too touchy for my liking at those speeds.

Wondering why does we have a traction control switch, we've never turned ours off so I'm wondering why have it and when would one turn it off.

There was an episode of UK TOPGEAR where Jeremy Clarkson was explaining how brilliant the Vauxhall Monaro was. He explained it for the world, did you miss that?.

I turn mine off every time I start the car. Can u permanently disconnect it by pulling the switch or pulling a fuse

Update.
Pull fuse 9 on the engine fuse box and traction control goes away on VE SS. No warnings or no lights on dash

Yep this.

My clay road gets very slippery when wet.
Tried it with the TC off and had a big wagon heading sideways very quickly.

If you don’t have traction control, you know how to drive without it. I had a 5litre VN with LSD which would go sideways very easily on a wet road (with premium tyres of the day) ….. you know what is going to happen and adjust.
The first time I gave a 5.7litre a poke on a corner with the TC off, it was very quickly sideways, and me looking like an inexperienced hoon. Totally unexpected and embarrassing.
Remedy, don’t switch between modes, leave ‘on’ or ‘off’ all the time. I now leave it on.
