Righto, after blowing the traumatic, I've gotten myself a t700 conversion,
It has a v6 vn box, bellhousing adaptor,
Cable for kickdown, the adaptor for the back of the crank, and a flywheel with converter.

I'm looking for anyone that has done the change on an early holden that can give any ideas.

Without looking, the box is longer, so the tailshaft will need cutting down,
I've heard the splines are the same between the two, is that true?

How is the kickdown setup?

Where can I get a speedo cable?
I'm guessing the plug on the left of the box is for speedo?

The crossmember will have to be modified, or could I just move it back and red till the chassis to suit?
Or perhaps a t400 crossmember?

Would it be possible to modify the shifter to suit the new box?
Instead of using a commodore shifter.

As far as I know, it was fitted behind a 308 in a Torana.

Thanks if anyone can help

Ok. I have done a v6 conversion on a Vk few years back so few things may apply. Tail shaft spline is the same. For length I was able to use I think it was the front half of a vn with the rear half of a Vk v8. Not 100% sure on that combo but I know it didn't have to be cut n welded. But that may not ally to you depending if the box sits further back when behind your engine and not behind a v6. Crossmember will need to be a custom job but is a pretty easy job. The speedo cable will be a pain In the arse. I believe the vn box has a speed sensor which you will need to get an adaptor from v6conversions. Alternatively you can fit a vn speedo like I did I but it sounds like you are going for a stock look. Stock shifter could be possible but would be alot of work. I got a b&n shifter that looks quite stock anyways.

I recommend you read the v6 conversions thread which is a sticky thread at the top. Has alot of great info you should be able to use :) good luck.

Thanks, there's be bugger all in there for h series Holden's!

Tailshaft is one piece for example.

Thanks for your help though.

I thought the splines were the same.
And yes, I'd love to keep the old speedo, it's what I love most about the interior.
As for the shifter, I have to get the box in before looking at it, but here's hoping.

Oh right i didn't realise you had h series. I thought it was a vb-k. I'd say tail shaft will have to be custom then. Might be able to use a Vk one or something. Best bet would be a tape measure once the box is in n see what you can find at the wreckers.

I put it in this section because they ran red and blue motors!

Meh, I know a lot of the chassis stuff is similar up to vs.
Easy mistake, and I didn't really explain the car!

if you dont want to use torque convertor lock up just unscrew the speed sensor of the box but leave the speedo drive in and use a th400 speedo cable to suit your car. you will get people telling you that you have to run lock up but you dont i ran a th700 im my old vb with out it with no ill effects and still sat at 1700rpm at 100kph with the 3.08:1 diff.

Here is a diagram on how to set up your throttle valve cable AKA kickdown.

Most likely have to modify the crossmember to suit and the rest im not sure never done one in a h series holden before.

I'm still a bit rusty on what the lock up does anyway!

Looks like a bloody pain in the arse!
Would an auto shop do that for me?

T350 modded crossmember will work I've been told.
It'll be most economical to use the current tailshaft and get it shortened.

What carb are you using? i know holley do a bracket to suit the th700 but i dont know if it can be used on a Rochester. its not as hard as it looks to setup. basically the convertor only really locks up when you are cruising to allow the box to cool any significant acceleration it unlocks and under load it unlocks so as long as you have a good cooler its not necessary to hook it up. i went to a trans place to get lock up installed they said not to bother.
