Tyre tread depth

Does anyone know the minimum legal tyre tread depth in NSW ? Cheers, searched but couldn't find it here..

In between each set of tread there is a groove right, now every so often along the groove there will be a tread bar, or a lump between the tread, this is the minimum depth. No where across any tread should the tyre be worn to this tread bar, otherwise the tyre is illegal. Forget the old rule of the white canvas showing, although that was me on my P's but since the tyre is the second most important component of a car besides the brakes, dont play silly buggers with depth.

i was always told a match head is minimum reqd. but as is stated above on each tyre you will find a tread depth indicator (running across the grooves). if you are below this you are illegal. no matter what state you live in

The legal tread depth for tyres in NSW is 1.5mm.

MikeCuzzy mate this thread is 6 years ago,do you think he would know by now,but its good to see someone reviving a very old thread.And is that the size of a match stick head cause thats what I always go by when I check my tyre depth.

Dredging up an old thread, minimum legal tread depth in NSW is 1.6 millimeters and a match head is about 3mm. 1.6 mm is ice skate time and 3mm is getting to aqua planing as the sipes in the tyres cannot get rid of road water fast enough.

tread wear indicators determin minimum wear. different tyres have different depths and they can range from 1.25mm to 2mm

dont go below tread indicator.
found in the grooves in the rubber
