If you choose a VE v6, go a series 2, 2009+ they came with the SIDI engines

Though there have been cases of the SIDI engines accumulating carbon deposits on the intake valves which cause it to enter "limp home" mode. Some useful info about VY and VE models here:

I just sold my VY and bought a 2006 VE and am happy with the decision. The VE is much nicer to drive, quieter in the cabin and just feels more modern and refined in general. As others have said perfect service history is a must with the VE, if there's a gap in the book then walk away no matter how much you like the car. Even then the early one's were prone to timing chain dramas which will lighten your wallet by about 2 grand.
