Hi just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with there ve ss. The temp guage just stop working today, went into engineering mode and tested dails which are all working fine, coolant temp read 0 degrees but. Aircon seems to have stopped working to.
This is an old thread but still relevant today.
The problem is definitely the temp sensor on the engine. This causes the temp gauge to read zero.
The air con stops working because any engine fault turns the air con off to protect the engine from extra load.
The temp sensor on the VE V8 is front left passenger side in front of first spark plug.
They cost around $50. You can replace yourself or dealer will charge temp sensor plus fitting of around $150.
Someone else mentioned diagnostics
If you go to engineering mode (hold left scroll button on steering wheel down when starting from COLD then release), select engine temp and watch the temp rise in degrees.
It should go up to around 100 -105 then drop back after a few minutes to around 90. That indicates that the thermostat is working correctly as cold water starts to circulate. That will separate the thermostat from the dash temp gauge in any case the dash temp gauge would be reading not zero.
