I pick my new VF Calais V up next week, and I got the 2100kg Towbar option fitted. My current VE has the 1600kg towbar, and being an auto it can actually tow 2100kg anyway, so what's the difference between the 1600kg and 2100kg towbar direct from the dealer?

The weight distributing hitch. The tow bar is the same.

And you will love the VF :)

Thanks. Getting the car in Sydney, but local dealer is clueless (Maybe he knows I'd never deal with them lol), and did not even know there was anything else except a 1600kg towbar. Now to look for a decent electric brake kit for the car, as the one in my old VE was OK and did the job, but required a lot of adjustments, unlike more modern ones.

Fingers crossed for a Tuesday pick up, if not then Thursday, and it will be late so I did not want to hound the dealer with a million questions as I'm bound to forget one or twenty :)

You are probably much better off going to a Towbar Specialist for advice. Most Holden Dealers will either send the vehicle out to a TB Specialist or get them to call at their 'Stealership' for the installation etc. Good luck. By the way, you will find that the 2100kg rated bar will have more bracing and is actually designed (certified) for the said weight. A 1600 kg bar is only rated/certified for 1600kg.

The 1600KG is rated at 2100kg for auto. As Raylamp said the difference is that they fit the weight distribution hitch to the 2100kg bar. Mine was definitely fitted at the Holden dealership and it's a Hayman Reece.

I can confirm that the only difference is the inclustion of the WD hitch for the 2100KG pack. You get two tow ball mounts. One for the standard duty towing and one specifically for the WD hitch. When I ordered my Calais, I got them to include the GM hitch cover which makes it look nice and neat when I don't have either of the towbars in.

Thanks everyone. Picked up the car yesterday and noted that the weight distribution hitch was in the boot still in the box, but I did not look further. I'll have a better look tomorrow

Car is wonderful to drive, smooth, pretty quiet, and the sound system is the best I have heard in a stock car for a long time.

Did you get the Superlift Shock Absorbers fitted - recommended but not mandatory for sedan when towing over 1200kg in handbook
