Toa the cheap old model g-tech's (can be had new on ebay for under $70 most of the time) are not really accurate against real time, well close but not spot on. But they are very accurate against themself. so if you gain you gain but it might not be a real time if you get what I mean : ). The new model that costs something over $300 and can download data to your pc is heaps more advanced

Aha, that's pretty cheap, but wouldn't the measuring mechanism from the cheapo to the dear ones still be the same? just missing the bells and whistles? some sort of advanced circuitry mercury switch or something.

The ones I have seen used on motoring vids and stuff have shown to be fairly accurate when compared to properly tested times, within 2 tenths over the quarter. These vids are a few years old now and even if they were using the expensive ones back then they would probably be comparable to the el-cheapo ones today, well maybe.

Yeah they are supposed to be withing .2 (the old ones) but sometimes not quite. They say the most important thing is getting them exactly level and running on a very flat road : )
