Hi everyone, I have a vr 5 litre in my vl calais and I'm about to replace the Oxygen sensor because I have something leaking from my exhaust and I'm assuming it's fuel but I want to be sure. I'm not 100% sure if it's fuel but it doesn't have a green tinge like coolant, it doesn't go away even if the car is at operating temp, there is like white "steam" or something but I'm guessing that's the condensation. I guess what I'm trying to determine, is how could I tell if it's fuel or water coming out of my exhaust. The whole exhaust and extractors are only 5000kms old apart from the twin cats.

There is no oil in the radiator or water in the engine, so I don't think it's the head, but can I be wrong? And how do I tell?

If the oxygen sensor is failing, will it cause fuel to come out the exhaust? I am having excessive fuel consumption if that helps. Like 300-350kms a tank

With out taking a sample to a laboratory to test it, put a little bit on you finger and taste it.
Your nose also works well for things like this.

If it's un burnt fuel, could be the regulator.
That could explain your excessive fuel consumption.

You don't.
Take it to a mechanic and they can do a fuel flow test.
Not worth mucking around with it yourself when it comes to fuel.
Especially when it's under pressure.

Are the return lines hooked up and working correctly ? What are the plugs like most cars will spit some in burnt fuel out the exhaust but 350 from a tank ain't real good.

The return line from the rail is fine, the charcoal canister seems to be ok. Yeah I would assume a little is ok, but it's not a little spitting, it makes a puddle after 1 minute after a few revs.
