VR/VS Statesman rear reading lamps into a VR wagon,

Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone has put the rear reading lamps into their wagon? I have cut out the headlining for the size of them but the lamp part just refuses to slot in, is there anything else I would need to do to complete the installation of them? I have already had some holes drilled into my roof framing for a cargo barrier, do I have to cut out some of the metal behind it? I'd prefer not to as it is part of the frame.

Sorry if this has been asked to death but I'd rather ask then to break something and thanks for having a look.

you might find the roof lining is a different shape, with more room behind, but I can't guarantee this is the case

are you taking about the ones that fit behind the grab handle assembly?
