There is a good chance it just needs re-gassing but you will need to go to aircon specialist to find out for sure. Do you hear your compressor cutting in when you turn on the A/C?

Well, I have had my A/C re-gassed 3 times over the last 4 years, changing the manifold washers at the same time due to the evidence of leaking. The last time the local bloke (with basic A/C knowledge and equipment) told me that the pipes will need to be replaced next time. Bit the bullet today and took it to a specialist auto A/C repair shop, who tell me, that it has a common problem of leaking compressor seals and one high pressuredischarge pipe. One new compressor coming up, as they are a 'throw away item', the pipe he will repair.
All up cost quoted, $1140 smackers. Due to the number of times I bloody well use the friggin thing, it makes for very expensive cooling!....phark!!!!

sounds a bit excessive , surely a good one from a vt -vx will work , from the wreckers?

Right, got the 'low down'!!!!!, compressor is an early VT original that are prone to leak on the end cover seals. (later VT and VX no problems)They are a sealed unit whith rolled ends, so are a bloody throw away job. Discharge hoses were also leaking, so had them repaired. System was flushed with nitrogen and cleaners, new... gas charge (with dye) , dryer, compressor, TX valve removed and inspected, checked the evaporator (in dash) for leaks plus 2.5 hours labour and the dosh just disappears from the wallet! Hafta keep the wheels for a few more years just to get my moneys worth!
Bloke was telling me, that if you just 'need a re-gas', you have a problem as the system has a leak somewhere. Maybe ever so slight, but they will hold their gas charge for the service life if there are no leaks.
Just my luck today as the friggin weather has turned cool, so I can't try it out!!.....LOL
