Hello all,

got my car back. Now i find it hard to believe that a transmission can go from perfect to cr*p in 4 days but never the less the car is now not moving. Mechanic bought it back to me after a tranny specialist"""" looked at it and said that it needs a full reco. Now I put it into d (or 1 2 or 3) and put my foot down and they car doesn't even move, it ever so slightly starts to move but at around 5-6k rpm.

Let it warm up and checked levels, they are fine, obviously something is stuffed and i will get it replaced. Could this be related to the service done by the original mechanic? perhaps wrong filter/oil or something like that?

There is also a hissing noise coming from near the tranny/engine when i turn the car off (after revving it)

PS. Anyone know a good towie?

I am not there to drop the pan off and check filter and solenoids

have you got time to DIY anything.... are any codes coming up .. to confirm tranny problem

the acumulator and valve body solenoids can be removed /fixed with the box still in the car

if the box had done a lot more km I would say fair call on a rebuild

No codes coming up.

Not confident enough to do any work to it myself, problem is can't even take it anywhere now because it doesn't move.

Found this in another thread.
No movement in any gear: pump failure, or total loss of fluid. R&R, or refill pan
and find the leak. If out of fluid, avoid running the engine until the trans is refilled to avoid
pump damage. To check for pump failure, check fluid level with the engine off, then start
the engine and recheck fluid level. If level does not go down when engine is running, the
pump is broken.

Hi All

I would tow it to a decent shop, tell them it drove fine and you had it serviced and it dies, you are not happy, can they inspect and re service, but to advise if the box is totally dead

It could have been on its last legs, or the last guy could have stuffed up the service ( or sabotaged it )

Used tranny from wreckers is about $300 and the same to install it, then you may as well service it so 300+300+80 = close enough to $700
A larger wrecker may removed and replace it for you for say $400-$500 , they have to warranty the parts as fit to work, many will do 30 or 90 days, get it in writing on the invoice so there is not hassles later,
also talk to them if it drives funny day 1 or day 7 or day 30 call them and tell them you are coming it, there is something wrong,

The quicker you tell them of a slight problem the better chance of early fix, if they bought a damaged car, they do not really road test them ( a bit had when damaged , older rusted or no rego cars can be limited tested but usually if it goes of the tow truck or drive of the street into the yard it is classified as 'working' ) so they know its 'unknown' or they expect a certain amount of returns ( a bloke i used allowed 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 as returns )they

I would try a larger transmission shop and have them do a inspect and re-service first you seem convinced the box was ok before it was touched

regards
george

I thinks it's highly suspicious. Considering the complete failure of a transmission that previously functioned perfectly suggest something has been done.

MY vote says the guy pumped all the transmission fluid out with the engine running and probably had the pump run dry. The only way to be sure something like this has happened would be to strip the box down and inspect unfortunately. If that is indeed the case I would suggest there would be plenty of evidence inside the pump and/or the rest of the transmission. I'd be looking for heat witness marks, scorching/scoring etc.
