it's behind the engine, near to the top end. you'll see a short hose going to a vacuum check valve which is half white and half black in colour. the hose at the other end of the check valve going to a T-joint. the 8th post down in this thread has a picture of the valve and other related parts:

http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...changing-itself-98-vt-berlina-3-8-ltr-v6.html

there's actually another thread with picture showing the exact location of this valve but i just couldn't locate it at the moment.

Thanks for the reply
Sorry for the stupit question but I have found a little hose right beside the fuel line (that goes to the fuel rail)its got a one way valve..Its not black and white its only black....Is this the right hose????
Thankyou

just an update to this (long overdued?) :D

the problem did come back intermittently a few days after this fix. sent it back to the mechanic and he found the little short hose to the one-way valve behind the engine was loose as well (has expanded over time).

he replaced the hose, and even glued it just to be sure. problem never came back after that until i sold the car in late june.
Do you think the hose was the only problem in the first place??

Guys I have the Same problem i went and spoke to our Mechanic/Radiator-Vac Specialists and he said the same things as in this thread he also mentioned that if a Mechanic/They were to do it it will about 7 Hrs labour so there just for the labour your looking at over a thousand + parts would recommend doing it ones self.

I'm going through this process now starting at the cheapeast option 1st through to the most expensive.

1st option replace the Vacume switch behind the vent control button on the dash - need to remove stereo and main console/covers and instument paneling (not the instument cluster) need to remove stereo 1st as set of screws in this comartment area.
* Will update as I go through this process for your info guys
** this is on a 2000 VT.

Thanks all for your input

Yes, that is a very common problem and the first place I would check. In fact I've given this advice many, many times on this forum and often it fixed the problem, but not always.
