vt overheating

Have replaced thermostat, radiator, water pump and have checked heater tap and coolant temp sensor... temp gauge reads red hot but the fans on and the engine is not that hot. Im stumped. Any ideas

What engine is it? if its the ecotec they have two temp sensors, a single wire one and a double wire one

I think its ecotec, but not sure. Have checked the double wire one, where would the other 1 be located?

i might be wrong but on the vs ecotec they were side by side. holden might have got rid of it on the vt's tho

1 - are you using fresh coolant, not water?
2 - did you bleed the system correctly?

Have been bleeding it, still seems to have a bit of air in there tho, i have to go buy coolant, it just has water at the moment.

ok, you need to get the system sorted properly - use coolant and bleed the system.

water in place of coolant is a big, big no no.

How come? I was told water was ok. Just wondering why u shouldnt use it?

whoever told you water is ok has no idea what they are talking about. Corrosion is the big one, further to that coolant has different thermal properties.
