Yep its called tram lining, when you have fat low profile tires and they follow the grooves in the road, lowering it makes it worse. You just have to get used to it. My last 3 holdens were all lowered with rims and had this. The one I have now is allot higher and rides beautifully and straight lol

My last set of tyres were Dunlop sp sports fast response and as the name suggests they are designed to allow you to change direction quickly whilst still retaining good road contact.Anyway they were prone to tram tracking so my mechanic suggested resetting the wheel alignment with no toe in (toe in also helps when changing direction) Result--FIXED

dont forget to that just replacing shocks and springs is only part of the equation. I have lowered my vx II all round albeit with king springs (ssl) at each corner so not quite as low (will be going to sssl in the rear soon to get a flatter look) and used kyb excel g shorter stroke shocks. with 235/45r17s on the fron I experienced some tram lining though not bad. I then upgraded the caster bushes to nolathene adjustable and added a half degree more caster and WOW what an amazing difference. No more tram lining, seems much more sure of itself under breaking (especially when braking and turning) and just made a big difference all round. Since then the entire front end apart from the strut top bushes have been changed to nolathene and the car feels amazing..........I remember a long time ago a mechanic once said to me that you should always leave your strut top bushes as rubber for a smoother, quieter ride. I have absolutely no complaints in regards to the ride, feel and abilities of the front end now and wherever I point the wheels it seems to go.

The next step is to upgrade to adjustable sway arms front and rear and tighten up the rear end with some new bushes and sssl springs.

Your welcome, just remember that If you change one or two things on your car (especially the suspension) then the parts you have added may not work effectively with the standard parts around it. This is what I love most about the whole car modifying scene. You learn so much and if done properly everytime you do something different it should be in the pursuit of a better not worse experience.

Case in point.....my first road registered car was a MkII escort coupe (1600cc) which after 12 months ended up being a rocket. All the suspension was modified, mag wheels, celica 5 speed it was amazing.........then I decided I wanted more power so in went 1300cc pistons to up the compression ratio, a bathurst cortina cam and a single idf down draught weber. The car was a rocket once it got up and going but OMG it wouldnt idle under 1200rpm, on a cold cold morning it would just fuel up and die, in the end the car no longer became fun to drive (it was now pretty much a race car).

Be aware you can go too far with anything.............when it comes to brakes and suspension they are 100 times more important than the power or even sound of your engine..........get it right it can be amazing.......get it wrong and you will end up with a pig that you dont drive anymore.

Just my two cents anyway

my vt is lowered. went from 15" csa rims to 17" ve ss rims and have a severe case of "tram-lining" i live in the country so its pretty bad. time for new bushes, shocks, and a wheel allignment i think...
