It's got me stuffed how anyone can strip those bolts. I've done thousands and NEVER even seen a stripped caliper bolt. Unless you are talking about the slide bolts, which I never undo anyway.

A careless mechanic or apprentice cross threads the bolt, then uses a rattle gun to do it up. When you undo it, you drag out the thread that should be in the steering knuckle.
I hear what you are saying and it infuriates me that some people could be so careless, but it does happen.

You'd have to be pretty bloody sloppy to cross thread it. Screw it in a few turns by hand first to make sure it's in. Where do they find these people.

I've seen some dodgy **** done to cars in my time, but cross threading a caliper bolt...to me, it seems almost impossible.

Pedders - Straight Advice, Specialist you understand and...No BULL............ But will rape you, your wallet every time you come and cause more damage.

Take it back... tell them to fix it and call The Department of Fair Trading even if they give you any grief while you are there.

I agree I would be making a complaint just to make a point. Back in the day of the MVRIC I took on a local Holden dealer who stuffed the front end of my Torana and they had to pay for the parts for me to repair it and then pay for the alignment.
As far as Pedders go same car a local franchise adjusted a rack end with the rack in the car and the torque applied to the rack chipped the teeth on it and the pinion where they meshed. Needles to say they said they did not do it. Several years later took my VN there for a 14 point safety check to get a report for dealership warranty, they adjusted the mesh on the steering to the point it would not self centre. I had to fix it myself. I saw him do it with a large pipe wrench, funny the service manual says use an in hex socket and a torque wrench!
