G'day,
grabed myself a temp gauge and im having trouble finding the sensor. Im looking underneath the aultinator and im a bit confused.
I attempted to take a photo, but its really bad.
The thing with the green wire is the temperature guage sender, which obviously sends the signal to your temp gauge in the dash. The thing with the blue plug is the Coolant Temp Sensor, which relays info to the ECU, for controlling the cooling fans amongst other things.
cool, maybe you can help me.
My mate gave me a water temp gauge, cause his brother crashed his car and doenst want it.
And i know NOTHING about them.
I dont know how to wire it up, there are 2 wires for the backlight, and one thick black wire, about 20 Cm long, assuming its been cut.
does the black wire have coppr or metal inside it? or is it hollow like a tube?
if it's hollow it's mechanical, harder to install and prolly not worth it
if it's got wire in it, hook that up tot he wire form the sensor in your pic.
A mechanical guage if it has been cut can not be used as the fluid in the capillary tube is gone. If the black wire is @ 6mm thick then it is mechanical. An electric guage will only need 2mm wire.
I solved the overheating problem in my VS wagon by adding another themistor in parallel with the existing one in the fan sensor. This is relatively easy to get apart. This gives a lower temperature operate point for the fan and hence the motor does not get as hot.
The standaard GMH fix is to replace the gauge sensor to make it look like it's running cooler.
Thanks for the post re a key fix. Has saved $$$$.
