What's the cost of reduced KM and poor running quality, for cheaper fuel? Asking for someone else's friend.
These engines were tuned for 91, so I personally don't see anything wrong with using 91... However, it's a good idea to occasionally put premium fuel...

3.8 Ecotec or 3.6 Alloytec, Holdens claim in the owner handbooks both engines will run fine on 91 ULP.

Yes I'm aware of the different engines. I just didn't realise they made a VY crewman and then he also posted in the VZ section which at first glance would suggest the 3.6 alloytec.

True, but the reasoning for it was off.
