The Alloytec motor found in the VZ, VE and VF V6's, Captiva's and Rodeo's have gone through many variations over the years. The dreaded timing chain rattle is the biggest issue on these otherwise reliable motors!

If you're in the trade or are interested in purchasing a kit for your own vehicle there are many kits to choose from, we have been building and working on these motors since 2012 and have a lot of experience with them as well as the numerous kits and revisions made over the years.
As such we've put together our own bullet proof timing chain kit! Check the video for more information!

I'll be placing an order for my VEII in the next few months. The dreaded P0008's rearing it's ugly head.

Do you recommend anyone in Brisbane to do this job of replacing the chains, oil pump and other on a 2008 VE.
Yes I expect one day I need this service

I don't sorry. But I'd recommend not rushing any mechanic to do this job.

Yes totally agree and this is the reason why i'm asking. I heard of people getting their VE V6 done and they had to many spares left in the box after they drive away.

I own a 2005 SV6 commodore and have had it from near new. It has the original timing chains has clocked over 278,000kms. I have experienced no problems with the timing chains or fault codes associated with same. The one thing I have learned is that these engines will gum up even if you follow GM's recommended 15,000kms service interval. They're too long in my opinion. I do frequent oil changes of 10W 30 Grade Oil (specified) and replace it and the filter at 6,000km intervals religiously. This also allows room for some travel over the 6,000kms safely for whatever reason is you cannot do it at the 6,000kms mark. Well worth doing, but if costs are prohibitive, I would recommend servicing every 10,000kms at latest.

7500km for me too, with the amount of km I do I'd be changing it every month if I did any shorter intervals.
