hi Guys. so i bulit my 1984 vk 308.
but swapped the heads to efi vn type.

im still using aircon bracket.
passanger side.
Aanyway, my alternator **** its self so i ordered an new one to suit a vk.

Problem is, the new one is different. it doesn't fit.
The new alternators pivot lug is only 51 mm. long.
my original is 55mm.
So now i have a 4 mm gap, and then tried using a spacer and now the alternator hits the extractors.

i'm at a lose.

are vn heads longer then vk heads.
do i need a special alternator?
do i need special brackets.
why cant i find an alternator with a 55mm pivoting lug like my original.

please help.
what do i do??

I was under the impression all Holden V8 (304/308) use the same alternator and the listing below seems to confirm that. I would suggest you've been supplied with the wrong alternator.

So my original aircon / alternator brakets might be wrong too? maybe the aircon, and the brakets were retrofited and not standard?
I deleted my aircon since.
so what do i need?

vk
308
vn heads
No battery or battery tray in the engine bay.
No air_con

Thanks

With the correct alternator to suit a Holden V8 and of the Holden brackets should work.

Should all be the same as far as I know.

Just grab a VN-VS alternator mount.

I already just bought it.
how can companies sell two different sizes and say it will fit?

I think you've been supplied the wrong one.

So contact the supplier and find out exactly what has been supplied or have a good look at the alternator supplied, it will have a sticker or markings on it saying what model it is, google that and see what it's for. Then decide if you want to return it and get the right one or start making custom stuff to make it fit.
