2004 sv6 auto I miss my SS
can someone clarify for me which v8 is from what holden. i know the 355 is the stroked efi 5.0 from the vn-vt commodore. At stock capacity is this engine the 304 or 308? And what did the 253 come out of? is is the 4.2 engine from earlier holdens? :confused:

304 is injected from VN to VT S2

308 is carby old carby

253 is 4.2L

355 5.7L strokers were first introduced in the vr model. No vn was a 355, not even Group A

VR series 2 and VS 5.7 litres were actually 350ci

actually hsv1992 5.7 gen 3 actually have a displacement of 346ci 253 first came out in HJ/Q and were refined in the commodores and were called 'blue' 253 because they have the pollution stuff on them pcv valve etc. I dont think any commodore was a stroker in stock form a 355 can be either a 304 or an early 308 with a stroker kit. and the 4.2 is a 253

VR series 2 and VS 215i Senators and GTS and include GTS-R were 5.7 litres (350ci), these were factory with Harrop cranks.

The 253 was first released with the HT.
The GENIII is a 346ci (5.7lt) engine
The VR-->VT 215i 350ci HSV range were a standard 304ci 5.0lt that used a harrop crank to stretch them out.
