Gents,

I've been busy with my VK, made the crank about 3kg lighter - balanced - new bearings, new pistons and rebore of cylinders, new performance cam, extractors and triple SU carbies.

Now I've heard that the stock ignition (with E.S.T.) is a problem to gain some extra power.

Does somebody know with what ignition I should replace the stock ignition, and what parts do I need to replace?

Thanks!

Please forgive me if my english is crappy, I'm an immigrated Dutchman. ;)

Cheapest and easiest way is to ditch the computerised system and fit an electronic dizzy from a blue 202, the vac advance is originally connected to a port on the carbie which the VK 202 had blanked off, but the EGR vac line is the exact same signal as the port missing from the carbie.

I'll start a quest for an ignition from a blue engine then...

Thanks for your time. :)

The Electronic dizzy can also be found on an EFi VK 202 which from memory (I remember reading it somewhere) had a slightly different ignition curve I think it was in the midrange RPM to curb some detonation problems or something.
Also get a really good coil & lead set

Is the VK the only Commodore what has EST?

Thanks, that makes my "quest" it a little easier. ;)

Does the control box what comes with the dizzy has a certain name?

Thanks!

Yes VK Carbie 6 was the only one with EST

Yes its the ignition module, its worth while removing it and refitting it with arctic silver heat transfer paste as the original stuff goes hard and dries out with age.
