^ But that's like being in 1972 and saying your GTHO Phase III is quicker than this new 5L HQ thing ... yeah that's true, but this Stinger exists in a world where all the V8 Commodores are on the used market.
Comparing new to used is an attempt to scale the Cliffs Of Insanity! :)

I think the point being made was about comparative cost of production that is a result of many things including a more fair and level income distribution here.

My post was in reference to quite a few different comments on the Stinger as well as South Korea and not just production costs and that’s why it wasn’t linked to any one post in particular.

Wage costs for manufacturing in the Australian Automotive Industry was for the main out of step with other forms of local manufacturing and not for one minute would I blame it for the downfall of the industry as there was so much more than that at play but most local manufacturers have to rely on good business models to survive and not Government incentives which allowed unions to help strangle with high worker remunerations for an industry that was no more skilled than many other manufacturers.

Korea: A question of cost

The country’s automotive industry is once again fighting its recurring battle with the unions as it struggles to balance workers’ wage demands with the need to cap costs in an expensive country to build cars

Deplorable inhuman capitalist perspective, each to their own.

yes there cost are going up thats why kia are moving plants to china.
i still cant see how with much lower production cost , kia are going to ask 60k for it, the same price for a redline made here
i think with the market hole left from holden ford with no competition kia aust can just ask what they want
the price is over the top
even adding shipping cost to australia it would be bugger all as they would broker cheap deals
on a side note the way north koreas rattling sabers we may never get the stinger

Why is the price over the top?
Purely because of the Korean badge?

production cost in korea make it much cheaper to build than a red line commodore made in oz sold for same price 60k
steel , materials , labour , holidays , work cover requirements , energy cost , makes it cheaper to build .
why do you think car manufacturers set up plants there and not australia
its not the kia badge its just a lot cheaper to make a car in korea than in australia so i cant see how its the same price as ssv redline made here
thats my two bobs worth
and no i would never own one
i think i will leave it at that
cheers all

PLus shipping the car around the world. Plus we pay import tariffs to bring that price up. Kia are strategically pricing it at $60k for a reason and it's very clever as people will pay that.
Also you've got to be joking saying the Kia GT should RRP at $35K. That's what people pay for a top spec corolla.

Nah, given that a current model Genesis, the range topper of the platform with all the bells and whistles (literally), with the bigger V6 and same "purist" RWD transmission and "revolutionary" Macpherson struts... costs $57,990 DA... tarting up the platform with a subcompact body style and hanging a couple of snails off the old Lambda II is clearly a gouge.
I mean the cost price and markup is ridiculous, just look at what (at least until the end of the Commodore era) is included, delivered, on a dollar for dollar basis by the same company:

Basically Hyundai / Kia couldn't give these away, even in the US where it was fitted with a reasonably decent V8 "TAO" engine the platform failed miserably.
There's been a top Hyundai model in my family for three of its most recent platforms, including the current K900 chassis shared with the Stinger. I know the difference in manufacturing quality, and the rah-rah Kor-reAh rhetoric in the detail.
The Stinger GT is a mid sized TURBO! five door hatch, same concept introduced with the Ford TX5 Turbo, perfected over 30 years to become the Mazda6 AWD Turbo.

Never was a bad idea, just not a replacement for the outgoing Commodore, and I too believe it is a rip-off trying to gouge as much as our limited release locally produced V8, indeed even more than its own fully optioned top of the range version... a filthy lucre-aid, nothing new.

The Genesis is $57k drive-away because it's an old (and only popular among hire-car operators) car that's on special, RRP is $61.5k for the base car & $82k for the upper spec one.

Makes a faster better-handling better-looking better-equipped newer design for less money look like good value to me! :)
