Sounds like 3-4 clutches are worn out or forward sprag is broken. If so it is either time to replace or rebuild. Take it to transmission place to be checked out.

how can i tell if the car is in limp home mode what will it do ( there is no message displayed for it)

Limp mode means the only forward gear you will have is 3rd. It starts from a standing start in 3rd, and accelerates to well over 100, but never changes into 4th. Its just to give you a single driveable gear to get home with.

The only warnings you get are the 'check engine' light will come on, and the gearbox will only give you one forward gear. Checking error codes will tell you what the problem/problems are with the gearbox usually.

Are you sure you arent getting 3rd gear? You do need some pedal to the metal to actually go anywhere from a standing start in 3rd...

would the forward sprag make the fluid go brown? and how hard is it to replace?
