My favourite is a small 1/4" drive socket set (4.5 - 12mm) with ratchet and a couple of extensions that I got for my 21st birthday. Had it nearly 40 years now. I find more uses for it on my bikes than my car, but it definitely is my favourite tool.

you can cut through 630mm mains cables. and depending on the model, 3 core steel wire armoured HV cable :p
so lets just say, don't put your arm or leg in there. you probably wont have it still connected if you do.

also side cutters.
good quality ones that last and stay sharp.

First tool I ever used on a car was a 14mm socket with a 1/2 inch drive ratchet, to get the sump plug off a 2000 Toyota Corolla, my very first oil change.

My favourite tool would have to be my Ryobi Impact wrench. It's bascially a 1/2inch ratchet on steroids... Used it on my car to change wheels over and I instantly fell in love... Also love the impact sockets I bought for it.
