Default Anyone fitted Walkinshaw power pack?

    Hi there,

I'm looking at getting a VE SS manual in the new year. I would like to get the Walkinshaw power pack fitted at $2650. This includes induction, exhaust and a recalibration.

Has anyone had this fitted? I am after some feedback and what sort of improvement I should expect.

I am also interested in the Harrop performace brake kit at $3950.

    Cheers,

well i am also gunna buy a VE SS ute soon and test drive a stock SS, then an SS with the performance pack... and you wouldnt think an extra few kw wud make a difference, but it had me convinced for sure. It makes a noticeable difference to the acceleration, not to mention the sweeter note you get from the cat-back exhaust

If you have a spare 2.6k then its well worth it, i have put off buying my new ute just yet so i can save the extra 2.6

Basically, if you've got the folding stuff to spend, have a look around and see what else is out there.

Are there other places that offer the same increase in performance, and for what price?

The Walkinshaw exhaust on an SS gives a lovely note though. Improves it from the standard one no-end

my old man has a SS and he had the walky pack put on it.
it has changed the car so much. it has so much more pick up from down so low, the power is right there eeven at about 1500-2000, i drove it be fore and after and is easily worth it.
the sound when he first got it dont wasnt much louder then stock but now after a few Km's it has really got a nice roar about it when stepped on.
if u have any other questions or want to see pics or hear it let me no n ill c what i can send u.

having driven quite a few modified VE's the walky pack is by a longshot the best for driveability, others may have marginally more power but that comes from the "dyno queen syndrome" (mine makes more power than yours)...lol

in pursuit of adding the walky pack to my new VE SS ute (when i get it) i was told that the pack has just changed, and is actually more expensive now because they do more stuff to the computer. and i was lost in the babbel about the ss8 and the ss9, whatever the hell that means? does anyone know if this price change is true... and if so, will there most likely be a greater power increase with this?

I'm thinking of getting one of these..the thing that may sell it is they carry the new car warranty for drive train. Holden don't warrant modded motors (even if just an OTR and def not if the MAF is removed - so my dealer tells me). So to get about 30rwkw and keep warranty sounds good to me.

Default I have a pack from my local sydney dealer

I got the 2.5 inch walkinshaw exhaust ,extractors ,tune, vcm cold intake with the maf still attached and a dyno tune.It has made the car feel so good. Now it pulls harder down low and off the start .My car is auto so it feels better now. It seems to get to the low speed shift points quicker so it not hanging onto the gears as long, the torque increase is great and i have not noticed any more increase in fuel use .So i say go for it.

Had the pack installed on my new series 2 and love it . My series 1 had growler cold air + berklee pex mufflers and the sound difference is heaps better (especially in a tunnel when you stick the boot in). Price was $2995 fitted and no complaints .

that's great to hear that you guys are enjoying the Walky pack! I looked at Walkinshaw for a full system but a lot of people told me that they had issues with 3" exhaust with shocking droning etc and that it was just a rebadge of a local product. They were a lot more expensive than the VCM pack that I fitted. I do like their exhaust tips too! They look awesome! mmm.. will keep this in mind for next time!

Walky kits use rebadged products. Not saying that's a bad thing, as they tend not to mess with the factory warranty. However you may be able to source the same (or better) parts cheaper if you shop around - all you'll miss out on is the walky badging. Not knocking it, just saying to be wary of the hype.

The HYPE is worth it. I've had my power pack in for 12 months now and I love. It sounds great and responds beautifully. I intend to upgrade the car with more Walkinshaw products eventually. Maybe their wheel package and have it lowered. It will cost a motza but it's nice to know that they (the wheels) are made especially for Holdens and can't be brought anywhere else. I'll probably go the OTR as well and whack some engine covers on it. I was given some Walkinshaw stickers to put on my car but I already have a HRT on the rear window plus the new Walkinshaw badge on the drivers side rear. It's a lot bigger comapred to the orignal badge, same size as the SSV actually, but it looks sensational. A couple of blokes have commented on it already. I also have the Walky aerial that I thinks looks better than the standard. It's a nice snug nose fit.

I fitted a Walky power pack to my SSV wagon in August 2010. CAI, 2.5" cat back and full dyno tune (include deactivating AFM) cost $3600. The car is very different to drive now, impoved performance, nice note, most of the time. At 2000rpm it drones. This is crap in traffic as you often hover around this rev range. Any ideas? Is this because it's a wagon with more area for sound to enter the cabin? My mate has an auto ute with a similar system (not Walky) with no drone - it's go a mid muffler though - mine's got got 2 slim hot dogs.

Yeah my VCM 3" drones about that rpm too. Though they guranteed no drone with a 3" system! Personally I don't think you can eliminate drone on an upgraded exhaust etc it but you can quickly overcome it with a soft touch on the pedal when driving. I too drive around CBD and it's not too bad!

thanks loku16. Walkinshaw also state that their systems are "guaranteed 100% no drone". I know you can go a little easier on the pedal, but most of the time in traffic, 2000rpm is around gearchanges. Looks like yours has a mid muffler, is that so?

I have A Redline Maunal Ute, Love it! Got the WP Power Pack and Super Sports Headers fitted from the start, Goes awsome, My old man had a SSV Sereis 1 ute not long ago an i thought that went well but mine has heaps more down low, Goes mint, cherps into 3rd. Also got it lowered and a short shifter by Walky, Love the shorty. I highly recommend WP especially as you hold your factory warranty.

I bought a VE SII SS Thunder last month, got the walkinshaw 3" power pack fitted, was blown away by both the great sound and performance. I have noticed no drone when flying along the freeway, great pickup around 2-3K in both first and second and it looks great with full stainless steel, not to mention you keep your factory warranty, will and have purchased other walkinshaw products. all the best!

    Cheers,
Whatt?? I emailed the guys at walkinshaw performance asking for a quote for these exact systems, and got told it was going to be:

2.5” catback exhaust, cold air intake, ecu tune) $3,710 all supplied fitted and tuned
    3” power pack $4,010
The brake package is $6,690 supplied and fitted.

These prices seem pretty darned steep to me, and the guy said I'd only go up to "about" 310kw, I'm assuming at the flywheel.

What do you all think of this? I know I can get more power out of a cheaper system, but the warranty draw with walky is making it hard.

    Decisions decisions!

Hey mate I got the walky upgrade however I used a VCM OTR mate it's awesome! Don't use the SS Reductions intake they offer it's great for noise and better than factory HOWEVER real gains are made with OTR don't use there OTR it's a W427 intake and front bar comes off to do the filter yes that's right front bar has to come off!
