man ur all gettin crappy fuel usage, i can get 440 to a 60L tank around town and 580 highway usage thats a vs

from factory holden say u should get 7.4L avrge fuel consumption and 11.5 on a highway, i recommend lifting ur right about 2 inches up :P

my VR which isn't stock and with a heavy foot now & then, my best comsumption was 480kms per tank around town.

But yeah normally o2 sensors go which causes excess fuel consumption but do a full comsuption test as in full tank to fuel light empty as the fuel gauges are never correct and you may get more out of your tank in the top half rather than the bottom half according to the gauge.

I bought my car for the looks of the vs which i like and the reliability and being a holden, there's no need to drive like a maniac in peak hour traffic, there for i take it slow... I do like to give it a full throttle of juice on the weekends tho but generally i drive my old mans landcruiser on the weekend sa its a company car and the fuel is free

Also talking about fuel gauges being out.. i think mine is, it beaped twice on low fuel so i filled her up with 54L's of fuel... its a stock tank too... maybe my gauge is out....... ????

"from factory holden say u should get 7.4L avrge fuel consumption and 11.5 on a highway"

I always thought it was the other way round the 11.5 is the urban fuel consumption and the 7.4per 100km is the highway usage, could be wrong though it just makes sense.

Hey ya guy's, I was getting about 9L/100km's to start with on the highways, but then I added a splitfire aircleaner & spark plug leads, dual coil & now get 5.6-6.3L/100km's, I can get on the highway 800-950km's on a full tank, around town I tend to push 550km's.......that's a VR Calais V6........but word of advice, it now drinks fuel faster than any army barracks drinking piss on anzac day if you put your foot down, & the power is alarming now!! I did a test with a full tank flogging it the whole time, & got 275km's for the full tank, max fuel comsumption is 103L/100km's, averaged 78L/100km's!!

don't take this the wrong way either
a 4 cyl has to rev harder to get from A to B say (for example)where as a 6 & 8 doesn't have to rev as hard, everyone will have varying fuel consumptions,it's the way the driver is,everyone is different with driving techniques.sure 4 cyl's are cheaper to fill up,but in the long run they tend to use just as much if not more fuel than a 6 or 8 cyl

even with power on for the whole time I still get over 400 to the tank so Joey_18 your car needs to have someone look at it

Let me guess... someone just got their car and hasn't discovered the cost of petrol yet?

As to my economy, haven't given it a real good test, i do a fair bit of freeway driving, so up to ~600Km/tank depending.

And re: 4 bangers, try getting them cruising up the freeway @ 1.5-2k revs at 110kph :P What was that about them using less petrol?

i completely disagree with that statement mate...
i know alot of ppl who have four bangers and they do a tonne of driving yet they only put $30 in it every second week.
when i was given a four banger lancer for a replacement car when mine was in the panel beaters i flogged it around town (foot to the floor style) for a week and it never even used half of the tank.when it came time to take it back with a full tank i put $20 in it.
you could never do that in a 6 or 8.

and if you dont think your car is powerful enuff on normal, buy a v8 since the cost on a v8 over a v6 will be equaled out with the fuel you use using Power :P

    lol @ joey haha

i have just got my VR and havent really tested the fuel economy yet. im still just over half way through the tank apparently though and i have 235km's done so far.

hey, people keep saying that if you get a CAI it can increase fuel economy. how much truth is in that?

Depends how you drive, also makes it easier to burn petrol when you put the foot down...

However you will get a little extra economy when driving like a nana.
