Hi All
I have searched high and low to find an answer but this is the best that I have come up with... Doesn't really answer my question..vt needs a camber kit?????
Anyway I have a 97 VT I have fitted some pedders springs that my mate gave me for freeAnyway when I went and had it aligned I was told your tyres will be dead in about 5,000km if I don't get a camber kit as I currently have 3 degrees camber on the rear.
This car is basically my interim car and I couldn't be bothered spending that sort of money on it, however at the same time I don't want to be replacing my tyres every 6 months or so..
I have sourced some FE2 springs and I would like know if I fit them to the rear would I still need a camber kit? I have read the FE2 are about 30mm lower than standard, however not as low as the pedders (I think they are about 50mm) they will still ride a lot better than the stock springs that I am trying so hard to not have to put back in because they are awful!!
Help is appreciated
Cheers
I own a ss with fe2 suspension and I am going to be getting the camber kit, as every 5000km I try to do a strip and fit on the rears to stop them weaing faster in the inner edge. It costs about $500 to get done at pedders.
So really what you are saying from factory anything that came with FE2 and no rear camber adjustment will chew the inside of the tyres??
Why Holden why??
Anyway I would imagine that the FE2 would be an improvement over the stock suspension for handling and looks and also an improvement over the pedders in regards to tyre wear.
I guess I will just stick with this compromise. I paid $750 for my car I am not going to spend $500 to install a few pieces of rubber and a few bolts just so I can adjust the suspension.
At the end of the day I have been told even with the standard suspension it will wear the inners quicker becuase of the IRS there is nothing really you can do becuase when you accelerate the rear squats down.
how low is it?, 3 degreese is pretty excissive.
At the moment I believe they are pedders superlow springs.
I'm picking up the FE2 springs for the rear tonight so I will fit them and see how it goes. It won't take long to chuck them in and then I will get it checked at the local tyre shop to see howmany degrees of camber it ends up with.
Is it 1-1.5 from factory?
I removed my king lows in the rear and replaced with FE2 springs.
I still put in a camber kit. Even with FE2 the rear end is a shit set up and it will wear the inner of the rears out.
I used a super pro 4 point kit and it has been good so far >5000 kms.

Really? Damm I don't want to have to fork out money for a camber kit maybe I will have to put the stock springs back in..
I am running 17" clubsport wheels at the moment. I think they are 235x45x17 tyres..
how much you want.....swap rims, im willing to spend the money on a camber kit!!! keep in mind tyres will cost you between $150 and $300 so times that by 2 and you get the cost of a camber kit in no time!

I have seen camber kits around for $150
so thats cheaper than more tyres
fitted i was quoted for a nothethane about 350, its worth it....plus you will be able to get it back if you convince some idiot kid who's just about to get his P's that its like awesome and fully sick!!!!![]()

I run low king springs on mine without a camber kit, and the tyre wear is alot better than when I first got it with super lows in it. With the lows the wear looks fairly even.
Well I fitted the FE2's to the rear tonight and I have it going to the shop it get it measured on Saturday to see what the rear camber is.
Will let you all know what the outcome is.
Cheers
Edit here are some before an after photo's
Pedders 2643 in the rear (This has 3 degrees cambers)

some rear camber kits work others they are shit, i got the rear subframe from a vx series 2 installed which has the toe link controls and fixed the problem with kings lows![]()
Ok well it looks like I am back to the drawing board. Had the car checked out and it is at about -2.8ish it appears the springs have helped a bit however the tire shop said with the lager thicker wheels now it is putting more strain on the rear end and forcing more camber.
Well I guess it's a camber kit or I will have to go buy some stock wheels and put the standard springs back in.. STUFF THAT!!
I am looking at this kit of $155. 4 Point Camber Kit if this is the kit that I need then it seems pretty easy to do I would be able to fit that at home take a look at this thread for fitting. Rear Camber Kit fitting personally I wouldn't take the link off the end of the car to fit them as it would be way too much work you would be able to do it still on the car.
What do people think of these kits.. I had a look at the kmac one fo $295 and well it is pretty much the same thing going by their photo all they do is give you tool to take the others out but why would you bother? You are not going to need them anymore so I would just hack them up so that you can pop them out easily.

I have this issue as well, iv got 18s on my S-Pack and i chew thru tyres like crazy iv been told i should get a camber kit but cbf atm as new 235/45/18s are only 110$ so its cheap to replace, or i just rotate them on a regular basis... good-luck find a solution mate![]()
Unfortunately for VT-VX1 owners this is always going to be a problem even on unmodified std cars and usually require fitment of some kind of camber kit if you want to save your tyres.
The best solution as stated br Scrinky is the fitment of a later VX2-VY2 rear cradle with toe adjustment links.

Cheaper alternative is to put a VXII IRS setup on it with adjustable camber. Not as good as a camber kit but my car is on ultras and has done 10,000 and still good tread on my tires even after a few skids.

Bought myself a camber kit from egay for $160 I am going to fit it myself and then get it aligned so for around $200 hopfully the problem will be fixed.
If not I will push the thing off a bloddy cliff.
whats better to do get a vxII-vyII rear cradle with toe adjustment links fitted (also anyone know how much to get one and fitted?) or get a camber kit?
Slightly off topic but how did you pick that up for 750????
