Ok so recently i noticed my car seems to be losing engine coolant pretty rapidly so first i took it to a mechanic shop about 2 or 3 months ago and they said it was the water pump leaking so they replaced that and i still seem to be losing coolant. now i just had it serviced 2 days ago and got Holden to see if they could find anything they said they did a pressure test and couldn't find anything wrong with it. What else could it be if they couldn't find anything when doing the pressure test.?? Cheers.

Hi There,

I would suggest having a look at the coolant inlet seals. If these seals are gone water/collant will leak down from the area just below the manifold.

Hope this helps

If there has been a coolant leak for that long there will, or should, be plenty of tell-tale stains unless it is internal, as in a gasket on the way out, and that the alleged Holden mechanic couldn't find anything is a worry.
The most common leak places are the pump and the radiator top (left side) tank which is prone to cracking. The heater tap is another common culprit.

So with the pressure test that holden did would that show up anything wrong with the head gasket or do they have to look into it further.

Have you checked the very back of the engine for leaks around the thermostat, there would be pink stains running down towards the gearbox if you have the red coolant.
How much coolant is it taking?

Its not like losing coolant within days its taking probably 2 to 3 months to actually go to nearly empty.

Maybe the radiator cap.
That's taken off to do the pressure test, so that wont show up on the test.

Loosing coolant can be very frustrating - trying to identify the actual source of said leak.

If you system takes 2 - 3 months to empty may I suggest that you are not checking (particularly under the circumstances) the level frequently enough. I suggest at least every week. Remember if the coolant levels gets low enough you run the very real risk of a 'cooked motor'. Now that could be very expensive. As for the Dtealer checking you cooling system, I would be more inclined to go to a Radiator/Cooling Specialist. You will find that they are much more experienced than some kid who really doesn't know what he is meant to be doing. Good luck.

I had same problem on my alloytech engine. No visible leaks anywhere, BUT, I noticed the carch tank was always overfull yet when coolant cap removed it was low and required top up.
In the end I fitted a new coolant cap (screwon type), jacked front of car high as poss, and ran the engine up to temp and bled air out of coolinf system.
End of problem. Hope this helps.
