well, i would suggest doing that to a 308, but if you MUST do a 253, then i guess thats the only way to do one. they are never gonne rev harder that a 308 cos rev is determined by stroke, and the stroke of a 308 and 253 is the same. so there is absolutely no benefit in running a 253, other that the bore sleeves being a tad thicker, hence maybe running a bit cooler. but less power from the same revs. BORING.

The 253 crank is 8 kilos lighter than a 308, the pistons are much lighter, they rev faster and harder and can do so more safely than a 308, just because there is less stress on the rods and pistons, but the only way to make them nearly as fast as a 308 is use those extra revs to your advantage and gear to suit. You should be able to build a 8000 rpm 253 with roller rockers and a solid cam and a9l rods and good pistons without any problems, worth it for the sounds alone :p

I dunno it may well fall apart :p stock ones don't make power up high anyway, but the old red ones in healthy condition would go past 6000 no problem

There you go Nackerz, a bit of work and your 253 can do the same. Maybe i'll buy myself a second 253, and start doing something with it.

My red 253 would barely get to 5k with standard heads (motor had just been rebuilt), chucked some YT heads on and it went to 6500 with no problems.

Some vids.

First start after we chucked it in the race car with the YT heads, Edelbrock manifold and 600 holley.

Got a new exhaust put on so had to make another vid lol.

But yeah not long after that it done a head gasket so pulled it out and chucked a 308 in it instead.

The red 253 that's in my HQ of unknown specs but supposed to be just a rebuilt motor (still has the 2 barrel) revs well past 6000, that's the one that's going into my VH but I'm putting injected heads on it, then again my stock 304 will zing straight past 6000 too, not making much power up there but it'll do it :p
