my stock 304 will zing straight past 6000 too, not making much power up there but it'll do it :p

I thought the rev limiter on those was 5500rpm?

. You should be able to build a 8000 rpm 253 with roller rockers and a solid cam and a9l rods and good pistons without any problems, worth it for the sounds alone :p

mate, that kind of build with and added girdle or 4 bolt mains and a balanced rotating assembly will rev a 308 to 8 grand as well.... only, rev a 308 to 8 and watch the horses fly, rev a 253 and watch the butterflys flap around like little nancys.

anyways i am not tryin to argue, just saying what you can do to a 253 you can also do do a 308 for more power.

Of Course you can, but you can say the same about a 355 vs 304, where you gain the same amount of torque with each step up in cubes, but the 253 is still a Holden V8 and it's still got more potential in it than a V6. You don't have to build one off it's nut to make well over 300hp and that's quite enough for a fun street car and it sounds good. You remind me to dyno my 253 once its in my VH unboosted and see if I can make more power than your 308

You just made me laugh Jason....Thats hardly a 253 anymore, its just shy of 300 cubes at 292.

Here is the mods list straight from an article about it in Street Machine:

Block bored 150 thou
Offset ground 308 crank
5.7" Chev rods
13:1 comp
YT dash 3 alloy heads
Enderle mechanical injection
Methanol

477HP and 392 ft/lb.

You look at that mods list and tell me what the point is?

For all those mods, he could have gone with a 355 and made ATLEAST 100 HP more and probably 150 ft/lb more.

Seams like a waste of time and effort to me.....For the price of stroker kits these days, i can't even really see the point in building up a 304/308 let alone a 253!

But it's a good 253 :), I've allways been a fan of the little motors and allways will, it's the original Holden V8 and has my respect :), I don't think cubes are too important these days either with such good turbo tech around

Yeh, your right on a Turbo engine cubes aren't overly important. On an N/A engine however, IMO, cubes are paramount....It's not a 253 anymore really, thats like saying a 355 is still a 308 :p

If it made 477 HP as a stock bore & stroke 253, then yeh, i'd sit up and take notice, but it's nearly a 308. I don't see the point in stroking a 253 when a 308 is available. If you're building a 253 for some fun because you have bits lying around, then by all means go your hardest, but to go out and buy all those good bits to end up with close to a 308 is silly.
