Hi All, I have a 2010 statesman. The aircon starts off all good and slowly reduces it's ability to cool the car, declining to a state of not blowing cold air after 20mins. I turn the aircon off for 10mins and then we are good to go again - sometimes for longer than the original 20-30mins. Can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks Mark

I`d say you are low on gas time to go to a pro.

I had regas'd earlier this year... That didn't resolve the issue... But over winter I stupidly didn't address the issue

Perhaps when you had the system re-gassed it was necessary because of leaking seals. I guess you didn't have them replaced ! Now with a drop in performance, sounds like you've lost more gas from the system. Perhaps it's now time for a complete overhaul of all seals etc. A competent A/C Specialist will be able to tell if the system is leaking. Good luck hope you get it resolved before summer sets in.

p.s. It is advisable to run the A/C during winter months - helps to keep the seals etc lubricated. You don't have to run it on cold, just turn the temp. setting up until comfortable. A great way to eliminate window fogging too.

Ice up is easy to tell, when it stops working open the bonnet and check the cold pipe running to the cabin, if it's got a decent layer of ice then it needs the above service bulletin. Vehicles this old that haven't had that problem before though probably don't need it by now.

Cars don't get "low on gas", they have a leak that causes them to get low. The two most common issues I see are low on gas due to a leak (rock in the condenser most commonly, otherwise leak from compressor/seal/pipe), or filthy as #### evaporator being clogged with dust. You can buy A/C system cleaners that dissolve dust in HVAC systems - get the AC looked at/pressure checked to ensure it's not out of/low on gas then run a cleaner through if everything shows up OK.

Thanks, I've suspected an ice up issue.. the turning on and off to "defrost"... That's the theory I had for it but wasn't sure of how to go about fixing it... I don't know if I'm being too negative but I just assumed the problem would be fobbed off as a regas or a leak that would require $$ to be thrown at it without a resolution..

Thanks for this (http://adair.com.au/tsb/TSB 76 HOLDEN VE-WM EVAPORATOR SENSOR RELOCATION.pdf) I have two cars that had this issue (run a small limo business) ... With the link; I got in an autoelec and he implemented the fix... It worked for 1 car but didn't for the other.. In the car that didn't have the issue resolved the autoelec said that the cable was taught and didn't have any slack in it as compared with the car that had the problem fixed... Any advice? I don't want to go to the dealership unless absolutely necessary as its been my experience that they much around for hours on end unless your fortunate enough to get a switched on knowledgeable mechanic
