Hi guys, I hope someone can shed some light on my problem as I don't have much experience with auto transmissions...
I have a recently rebuilt and shift kitted trimatic behind a strong vk 202 efi. When the car has been run for a while and then driven up hill in top gear it will start to slip in 3rd when accelerating hard. It also slips a bit when changing from 2nd to 3rd manually when accelerating hard. It only does this when the engine has been running for 30 mins or so and after loading up 3rd gear uphill.
My trans specialist who rebuilt and shift kitted cannot find anything obviously wrong and is reluctant to start adjusting it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am a novice with autos.
Cheers,
Mike.

What fluid is it running? slipping will quickly burn the fluid (among other things) and give it a burnt smell- whats it look / smell like?

check the vacuum ports from the manifolds , had an issue with my trimatic was the vacuum tree ports were 95% block and worked like a vacuum tank instead of a vacuum line . if using cheap silicone hose be sure this is not collapsing under high RPM or load .

Hi Sorry for late reply, I've been away with work... I'm not sure which fluid it has, it was changed by trans specialist. It was red and clean, didn't smell burnt to me? It hasn't slipped very often so potentially not had a chance to cook the fluid yet?
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi Sorry for late response, I've been away with work...
I replaced the vacuum hose from manifold a while back as the old one had perished, unsure what hose I used, it could be cheap stuff. I'll check it out.
Thanks,
Mike.

Correct amount of fluid?
Correct dipstick?
Do the gears work manually up and down?

Hi sorry for late response, I've been away with work...
The gears change fine manually until it gets hot, then it will slip when changing from 2nd to 3rd manually. I have to let the revs off when changing gear to stop it slipping.
The trans behaves nicely until it gets hot.
Cheers,
Mike.
