While showing somebody under the bonnet today, noticed the harmonic balancer had a wobble. Getting a new power bond one fitted tomorrow. No idea if it was there pre blower but stacks of threads on the net about others seeing the same yet Holden say it is normal. Seems to be quite common on the V8 from VE on. Others heard of the issue?

Factory balancers aren't great. Seen heaps go on VE, and a few on VF.
Adding the blower only puts extra load on the balancer, as it's now driving something else (the charger).
You can't go wrong with a power bond balancer though

At first I thought I was just imaging it but after fitting a power bond race balancer the car is so much smoother in terms of acceleration, idle, deceleration etc. Just lucky the old one was accidentally noticed with it's wobble.

A small amount of runout is allowable and will usually never cause a problem with a factory drive setup.

Thread dig !!!

My car started making funny chirping noise when cold. I could see some 'wobble' in the balancer but not much.
Soooo if you hear similar sound ...inspect your balancer...

Holden replaced the harmonic balancer and belts today under warranty :)

Was the harmonic balancer new (with the new engine) or did they reuse the harmonic balancer from the original engine?

They said it was the old one that they reused...

They also managed to significantly overfill the oil which i now need to drain...
It's like 15-20mm above the full mark...
Not sure why I bother going back there...

I would say it’s a bit of an issue. I am now on my 4th balancer from new in series 1 VF SS, 130 km. Had holden replace under warranty 3 times, I can tell when it starts to let go apart from the squeak/squeal, car rocks noticeably at idle and gear stick has a harmonic wobble in neutral. When it starts to mess with shifts from 2nd-3rd it’s time to get it changed. Last time the car was dealer serviced and replaced under warranty the car was given back with the thermo fan connector unplugged causing it to nearly cook in my way to work the next day. Aftermarket balancer and decent workshop are the way to go.
