I shift from 5th to 6th at about 90kmh in my ve ss 6 litre when I’m driving with fuel economy in mind

Although not in a VE, in the VZ 6.0 have been following Reapers advice of "Get up to speed quickly and put it into highest gear you can"
So often will cruise at 60 in 5th and 80 in 6th. But if accelerating will just keep it down a gear and then change up.
Do wish it had the instantaneous reading on it, would be good to use for getting info.

But also depends on the car.
One of my others doesn't like below 1500rpm, so means being in a different gear.

All comes down to what and where you drive aswell. Sometimes its better to be in a lower gear not to labour the engine which comes down to feel.

I must be doing it wrong, I briskly pop it into third at mid to high rpm and it pops the tail sideways..
The more you know.

5 to 6th? About 5000rpm ;)

But seriously, I generally sit at 60 in 4th, 5th feels laboured and instant economy doesn't show much difference.
6th is for highways. I change up when at 100 and cruise.

Bear in mind final drives vary a fair bit as I understand, manuals to auto and HSV to holden. Your mileage may vary

EDIT. Also I'd like better positioned pedals, I've been experimenting with heel and toeing and its not easy in the VF, the accelerator pedal is very low. I must need to be braking harder!

Not sure, someone with more expertise on diff ratios will be along soon I'm sure.

For labouring, its more of a feeling. On the flat its fine at 60 in 5th, but a slight incline you can feel its struggling a bit. The LS3 has a nice chunk of torque so it will pull but I'm normally warming it up on the runs at 60 so figure some decent revs helps get everything flowing.

yeah... the VF accel pedal is way too low imo.
so
I bought a set of race pedals (accel and brake)
and screwed the accel one onto the VF factory one

bewdy.. raised the accel pedal height about 20mm.
Perfect heel and toeing now :)

In my L77, below 60 (3rd) 60 - 80 (4th) 80 - 95/100 (5th) then 6th.

Indeed.....need a double jointed ankle to heel toe in the VE.

I just rev match prior to braking for smoother down shift.
