VY SS Ute (Jimi Hendrix)
Hi Team

I am looking at a way to improve the utility of my utility ;). I am thinking of combining a couple of ideas. The first one is using VE ute tie downs. The rails are available on eBay for a couple of Avocados - 1700 long and appear to baolt through the tray. Has anyone done this yet? If so were there any pitfalls? Were you able to get the bolts though without hitting anything important?

The second idea is to manufacture some tie-down rails. I am thinking of borrowing an idea from the ute barrier; using nutserts to make relocatable tiedowns. Although the larget nutsert I c an find is 10mm. I may have to weld in some captive nuts as an alternate. Again if anyone has done this it would be great to learn from your experience.

I expect that I can make some mounts that use the existing bolts to mount some RHS with strategically set nutsets that I can screw anchors into as reqired. Pretty simple setup (in theory).

I look forward to your advice, and any ideas that you may have to guide the development.

Were the eBay VE tie down rails the genuine complete kit?

Genuine kit complete

Found it on eBay, it's not the actual VE genuine kit.
Rails are similar, but the hardware kit is totally different.

@Imoengr Thanks for the heads up. Those aren't the ones I was looking at originally. They were listed at $210 a couple of days ago. I see the ones on eBay now are off a Colorado. They could work though or should I be hunting around for the VE rails?

I'm not sure how they would work on a VZ, I've been looking for a VE kit to fit in my Magnum.
My local dealer said they couldn't locate any new kits. My Redline had the kit fitted by the dealer before delivery, and I fitted a kit in my Maloo.

I shgould have grabbed the ones when they came up. I wasn't aware of their scarcity at the time. I'm sure I could make Colorado/Rodeo ones work in the VZ. I will keep an eye out for the VE ones as I continue my search. If I come across them again I will let you know,

Also the Adventra had a system in the back of them that was the same. You could rat one from a wrecker.

Search Unistrut.
They have a shirtload of channels, slip in nuts and eye bolts.
There are probably other companies doing this stuff as well but I remember Unistrut from yesteryear.

Something else which would work is the VZ wagon cargo rails about 2050 long with the clip in hooks as in pic

Thanks for your input. I had a look at these systems and as they appear to be specific to a wagon I moved onto looking at the VE type. Having not seen one if the flesh do you think that they might be a better option than the VE or colorado system? I imagine there isn't a great deal of diffrence between the back of a ute and the wagon.
