I'm putting an auto into my car and having it rebuilt with a shift kit and new clutches and bands etc..
i don't want to upgrade the torque converter to a stall converter, so i was wondering how much power/load can a standard stall converter take?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thankyou.
Colin.

why dont u want to upgrade be a good idea to get beter launches off the line.... never really herd of a stock torque converter failing as most people just replace em when they go threw modifaction proccess chasing power....

optimally, you'd want to match your torque converter with your turbo spoolage etc, so you can get builk torque, quicker! (isn't that what it's all about?)

In either case, if anything were to break in that area, I'd be more concerned about the flexplate than the torque converter. - Though these seem to hold up to a fair bit of power anyway.

The guys to speak to about this would be keas autos.

yeah, i know it'll have a better launch with a stally, but i don't want the thing to rev to high on the highway and it'll be a little bit friendly on the petrol refills with just a standard torque converter.
I'll be getting a better flex plate anyways.

Does anyone know if a manual starter will fit an auto flexplate also?

Thanks.
Colin.

you could shop around for a hi-stall converter with an electronic 'lock up'?

how is the beast going anyway? sounds like you're scheming a pretty tough setup!

Just wondering, if your doing 110 in forth, what does rpm does it sit on?

Yeah, it hasn't really been going lately. After putting everything into the ute, the motor started playing up and got a tight spot so i pulled it back out and have only manage to save up the funds to rebuild it again, but this time getting an engine shop to measure everything up and machine it all so it'll be alot more reliable. Talked to a few blokes about what to do to the motor and what i'm doing to it, they reckon i'll be able to run a bit of power so it'll should be a bit quicker once i've bedded the motor in and give it a hard tune.
I'll be happy with 400-450rwhp to start with, then once the turbo goes goodbye, i'll go a garrett t04z and try push for 600-650, which will be plenty for a street car/daily driver. :w00t::yeah::driving:
