  • Hi Marc,
Thanks for contacting me. I feel for your pocket book with this exercise. I am lucky at present, no rattles or sludge in the oil filter.
Some kit suppliers eBay give timing plates and a write up with it. I don't know how good the Holden Service Manual on CD is. It sells for about $300 or more. It covers VT to VZ all variants, and supposedly other Holden vehicles.

When my motor was about 3 years old, I noticed a rattle on start up over a few weeks. I then started changing oil and filter more regularly. I now do 6 month intervals religiously, oil & filter, regardless of kms travelled.

The JC site is good for advice, but prove any replies you get for complex jobs as there could be honest mistakes in work sequences. Some contributors get US based work routines, they may be worth a search for the best consistent setup process.
Sorry I cannot be of more assistance.
Best of luck with your project
    Cheers
    Len
