G.day mate iv'e had my VL for 17 years and had every problem know. I once change the oil and had to call the NRMA to get it to start. It took hin 30 min's to get it started , turns out to be the earth on the motor was dirty. I would start looking at the fitting going to the crank angle centser. Some times they get corrision i was starting to think it might be the centser it self [ small CD type disc were the leads mee]t but u have lights.
