Get it sorted ASAP.... I lost my HZ in the outback in a similar way :(

There is supposed to be a return line to the rad from factory... Seal the crack with high temp silicone...
Just put in a new water pump, any thing I should be watching other than the coolant levels ?

When i do a water pump i always remove thermostat and do full engine and radiator flush.
Then fitt new thermostat and refill.
I then allow the car to idle for about an hour to insure thermo fans kick in and temperature stays below half on gauge. Thermo fans should start and stop to control temperature.

Note- when car running at full temp is the best time to check for leaks, also recheck your coolant level once car has fully cooled down
