What do people look for in VL

Bummer, only got a little tiny bit at the on passenger side at the bottom joint of the rubber. How much should I have? Only joking ;), thanks for quick reply. I did fix up the normal spots under the rear corners of the bonnet, before it got through and started wetting the ECU. I have seen...

What do people look for in VL

Hi All, just wondering what people look for when they are looking to acquire a project car. The reason I ask is I have a VL sedan, that is now surplus to requirements. I know this is not the For Sale forum:whistling, but I don't have enough posts yet, to qualify to post in that forum, which is...

    20 min cut out

rough timing guide the timing mark is on the crankshaft pulley and it lines up with the bump on the timing belt cover at TDC. There are 2 TDC positions, 1 at the top of the compression stroke and 1 at the top of the exhaust stroke. If you have the wrong one then weird stuff could happen :(...

    fast idle dramas

Things to check I would start withthe basics. Check throttle is not sticking, and that it comes back against the stop. Sounds obvious but you never know. There are two solenoid operated valves that affect idle. the first is the AAC valve allows the ECU to let a bit more are in to increase...

    Moisture!

Wet Passenger Carpet Hi, Open your bonnet, and have a look under the passenger side hinge. There is a drain hole there that let the water go down into the mudguard and out. Just next to this hole is a seam where the water can sit and rust through. Once this happens, the water gets into...

    Fast idle

Hi, don't know much about replacing injectors, but for the other bits have a look around the mudguard next to the battery. Mine has 3 relays, (little boxes with wires out the bottom). one of these is the neutral inhibit relay, and one of the others is the reverse polarity relay. These get...

Intermittent problem for the clever people

Update info (could my car be jealous??) MyVL is much better, but still a bit intermittent, though there is a pattern forming. Appears my VL doesn't like my wife :whistling drive all week.. no problems. go for a drive on the weekend with wife and kids in the car, sometimes wont start, or...

    Fault Codes 4 ECU Question

LED Codes Hey MAG, Red for tens, Green for units. ie 12 is 1 Red the 2 Greens. 12 means that the ECU has determined that the signal from the Air Flow Meter, the bit between the air filter and the manifold that has a data cable connected to it, has gone outside an acceptable range of...

    VL Cutting out. Help!!!

Cheap thing you can check yourself Hi, I found my problem that had the same sort of behavior. Have a look on the inside of the mudguard beside the battery. Autos have 3 relays, and I think that manuals would have one. One of them is a metal one that looks a bit like the one in the photo...

Intermittent problem for the clever people

Hi, thanks for the response. About the heater hoses. 1. Is there an easy way to get to the hoses? Take the intake manifold off? Take the starter motor off, and attack from below? Some other way? 2. Is it hard to replace the fitting in the block, and how likely is this to be needed? I can...

Intermittent problem for the clever people

A Win Good People I found a fault, and I can't believe that I cannot find any mention of it in any forums. In an effort to protect VLs from people that do stuff wrong, holden saw fit to include a 'Reverse Polarity Relay'. The idea is if someone puts the battery in the wrong way round...

    Bring out Your Dead

Anyone in the brisbane Qld area with a busted ECU out of an AUTO VL from around 86, that they don't want? :w00t: I just want the sockets on the bottom to be in good condition. The rest can be stuffed. I have an idea for a project TeeHee :flame: Must be cheap, as I am already in...

Intermittent problem for the clever people

Thanks (So Far) Thanks for the good suggestions, ideas. I will be getting to it again this weekend. About the diagnostic plug/s. There is one on a manual,, and two on an automatic. The engine one is a four pin socket under the bonnet, against the firewall on the passenger side. So far...

Intermittent problem for the clever people

Alright here is one for the clever people. My 86 VL has an intermittent problem that doesn't show up in the diagnostic codes. Car starts normally, and drives fine for the 1st 3 minutes or so. The lights in the ECU flash normaly to indicate closed loop tuning. As the engine temp gauge...

Speakers On Top Of VL Dash

A quick note that may help if it is not too late. If you adjust the air vent using the knob on the bottom, so that the flap is right down, it will stop a dropped screw from disappearing into the vent system. Took me a while to get the screw back the first time. Good Luck

    VL 3.0 Straight 6 Diagnostic plug/socket

Hi, I am new to these forums  I have recently purchased a 86 VL SL. I am interested in any info on the diagnostic interface plug and the data protocol, levels, and codes that can be used to communicate with the ECU via this plug. I have found plenty of info in these forums and...
