Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

That was actually a concern. We all drove over together but I flew the wife and kids back so I could drive straight through on the return trip. Dropped the family at the airport at 11am ACDT and made it to the border by 11pm AWST so that I'd be in the state the same day in case anything changed...

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

I mostly support the border measures but: the G2G process and app are a joke (seriously); continued reference to "the health advice" without ever actually letting us see it or the CHO talk to us is ridiculous; the requirement that people in quarantine continue quarantining when borders are...

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

Just to complete the thread - had a new 1700kg ATM single axle trailer built in WA, towed it across, loaded the boat on and towed it back. Tare weight 500kg on the way over and loaded weight ~1.3T on the way back. Removed the windscreen to keep windage to a minimum. Monitored temps with Torq...

Towing a ski boat with a vf2 ss wagon

Ah, wasn't aware of that - thought all SS variants were manual. Thanks for the correction.

Fitted a Narva Explora 14" light bar using a number plate bracket to my VF Series I Calais V wagon (v6) and am stumped when it comes to getting the switch wire into the cabin. There are two chunky booted grommets down low near the steering column but they're neither easy to access nor is there...

Towing a ski boat with a vf2 ss wagon

Aren't all the manual VF's (Series I and II) limited to 160kg ball load / 1600kg braked towing capacity? That's what the standard sticker on my VF Series I Calais V wagon says anyway.

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

Yep, will treat it to new bearings and tyres before heading off. Also will carry a spare set of bearings, grease and maybe even a spare hub. I'm thinking of converting it from leaf spring to torsion axle when I get it over here so don't want to spend much on it, but I'm also not keen on being...

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

I'll have nearby gearbox shop do the work. I got rid of my ramps when I bought the Calais as I didn't want to wrench on cars anymore. The Sierra's got enough clearance that I don't need ramps. BTW if you're the Fu Manchu of HomeOne lawn prep fame, we followed your advice (zeolite, bentonite...

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

Brilliant, thanks for the heads up. Will try a cheap one off eBay initially as I don't have a great deal of use for it other than monitoring trans temps. Can always upgrade later.

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

Well spotted ;) 31x10.5's, locked front and rear, lowered transfer case gearing, lifted transfer case, 2" body lift, modified suspension, etc ... she's pretty capable. Will outdrive a moderately tickled GQ or 100 series on most terrain. Trouble is that she makes driving stuff too easy, if...

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

They are indeed. I haven't driven it in almost 5 years (kids...) but can't bring myself to get rid of it. It's taken us on some great adventures  Started life like this: Now sits like this and goes pretty much anywhere:

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

The Sierra was driven over and pulled a 5x3 trailer. I didn't tow the Sierra. I mentioned it only in relation to Nullabor winds - it has all the aerodynamics of a brick and we had to push into those headwinds all the way across. It was a May crossing.

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

That's a cool gadget. Is there a recommended dongle? Also what would be considered 'too hot' for auto trans fluid?

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

Thanks guys, consensus is that it's worth fitting so I'll have it done. I'm at 70,000km and it's been logbook serviced since new so not sure that that's included a trans service. I'll ask the gearbox workshop what they recommend. It's not my first trip across the Nullabor and I've experienced...

Towing 1.25T boat across the Nullabor ... aftermarket oil cooler?

I'll be towing a 16' fibreglass half cabin boat on single axle trailer from Adelaide to Perth in late December this year. ATM weight is around 1.25T. Tow rig is a VF Series I Calais V Sportswagon with the 3.6L V6 auto and 2100kg rated factory towbar. I understand that there's a small oil cooler...

The seat covers arrived last Tuesday and I got them fitted yesterday - pretty impressed with overall fit and finish. There is a small issue with the ISOFIX points not being accessible but their service has been brilliant thus far; positive response to my eBay message just a few hours after I...

    VF screen issue

That's the sort of misbehaviour you see on a notebook screen if the flex connector through the hinge gets damaged - the old Macbook 520 that I had in high school (~1997!) needed it replaced about every six months. Can't see how it could be a software or firmware fault. Far more likely a faulty...

Some of the air-bag compatible covers have a slit down the side; others have break-away stitching. The PSC covers are of the break-away stitching variety.

Yeah I've seen the Holden genuine ones but aren't a huge fan of them, both aesthetically and due to the non-coverage of the side bolsters. It's primarily a work car and my shirt can get pretty grubby if I'm scoping out a fire damaged property or the like, so full coverage is my preference...

Anyone know if these PSC Neoprene seat covers are of decent quality? Just bought a VFI Calais V 3.6 wagon as a work vehicle and wouldn't mind picking up some decent seat covers to keep the leather in good nick.
