Old thread dig but just had this issue and fixed it today on 99 VT.
Boot stopped opening couple of days ago. When I press boot release on key fob or glove box release I hear the actuator moving, so not a busted fuse. Must be a broken actuator rod / connection. The boot barrel lock was buggered...
Check ECU relay. Mine was burning out and causing it to crank but not start. Sometimes it took 10 goes especially when cold.
Look at the base of the ECU pins for any burn marks. If yes, then the relay could be the issue. $25.00 for a new one.
I had this issue a while back...was it the ignition ring, fuel pump etc etc???
In the end it was the ECU relay which was / had shat itself but there was no apparent signs without removing the relay and seeing some slight burning on the base of the pins. $25.00 later and a new ECU relay and all...
Whilst I have a VT SII sedan (and you the ute), the issue is the same up front in the main. I put 245/35/19's on the front and had same rubbing issue. It was either push the camber out (positive) till it didn't rub the strut and scrub out the outside of the tyre in no time or spend some more $$...
Been there, done that last year. Total PITA....power, crank..no start. Sometimes it'd start first go and other times it took 10-20 tries.
Finally found out it was the ECU relay fuse. It had started to burn out on the inside (no outward signs). Took a good auto sparky to find the issue and also...
Halloween................
So, with Halloween getting traction in Aust with the kiddies, I thought I'd get a costume that would scare the bejesus out of the little ones that come knocking at the door. This should put an end to it in my street.

NSW Govt legislation around trading on various public holidays prohibits most if not all large retailers from opening. Bunnings had applied in past years to open on Easter Sunday and been denied (along with others) so I'm not sure the penalty rates was that big an issue for them. Whilst my bitch...
FWIW, on my VT SS I run 8.5 (245/35/19 E45) front and 9.5 (265/30/19 E50) rear with no mods, no guard rolling (standard FE2) with only the very occasional scrub. Set-up just (by mm's) clears front struts / rear inner.
Could be one of may things. Best option would be to get a scanner hooked up, read error code and then investigate that part of the car. Local mech or Holden can do this but they'll usually charge anywhere up to $100.00 to do it.
Mine came on due to a faulty 02 sensor. Would start her up from...
Agreed re the Holde Chev ones. No isues with grip level.
Yep fitting brake is a bugger. Leave it back side up in the sun for a bit to give it some warmth and flex. When fitting, slide on from the bottom so bottom and side lips are snug, then use two small but sturdy flat head screw drivers to...
NFI re the stripes too. They are standard Holden VT headlight protectors. I think they'd be better without the stripes, but it is what it is.
Yep, projector headlights. Not going to fo the HID route...well at least for now.
