Hiya Guys and Gals,

I have a good friend with a VX sedan and I've setup my VX sedan the same as his that's lowered one setting down from standard and I'm interested in fitting a 17'' alloy rim.
So the tyres fit correctly I'd like to stay with the 215 size and would like to go with the highest wall height possible without any rubbing.
I'm wondering if anyone else also has much the same setup and if so what wall height they use.

I was at a tyre calculator site and they say the 215/17 tyres come in 35,40,45, 50, 60, 65 & 70 so this is the tyre wall height right and also the speed rating as a W and a V.
I only go 90 to 100 ks and rarely ever overtake so maybe 110 once in a blue moon.

Could anyone tell me what the 40,50,60 mean, is that the height in mms and when they say wall height is this from the outer rim edge to level with the tread?

Thanks in advance
Karen

It's a percentage of the tyre width, so 40% of 215mm is the side wall height.

Can't give you a definite answer about them rubbing without the offset of your wheel, but they're pretty narrow so you'll probably be fine. Keep in mind going to a bigger diameter like that will make your acceleration worse, not really great for stop/start economy in stop/start traffic.

If you want to go with a 17" rim why not stay with a set of standard Holden rims, the VT and VX SS's ran 17"x 8" rims with 235/45/17 tyres, used sets are pretty cheap on ebay and you would have no issues with rubbing and be able to run a wider tyre.

Good suggestion, well that would be a good place to start. Buy a cheapy standard SS rim and used tyre in that size a see if there's no rubbing.

I'm running a 245/45-17 on a Holden 17" rim on my VR if that helps you. Nothing has rubbed.
Standard FE2 height. Overall tyre height of 25.7" (up from the stock 25.3")

My VX SS has the standard factory 17"x 8" rims and 235/45/17 tyres, last holiday I had 5 people on board, a full tank of fuel and the boot that full of luggage you could just get it shut, standard FE2 suspension but it was sitting real low because of the weight, and nothing rubbed or scraped over about a 1500km trip.

Edit to the above: I meant to say 235/45/17 not 245/45/17 just corrected the above.

I seriously doubt you'd get the correct load rating with a 215 tyre....I also think that a 215 tyre will be too narrow for a 7.5" rim.....So your best bet would to be to fit a 235/45X17 on the rim, to keep everything correct in all departments...ie rolling diametre and load ratings

Thanks guys, 235 it is then. A couple of questions what is the 48P is this on the rim and the standard FE2 suspension is this the suspension lowered one down from standard.
