I got an SMS from a mate of mine the other day about an interesting historical fact.
The 1985 Ford Escort RS 200 on road tyres managed a 2.2 second 0-100, and pumped out a jaw dropping 1.8 second 0-100 on slicks.
As if that wasn't scary enough, this was all accomplished with a 2.175L 4 cylinder turbo engine pushing 537kW, stock.
A modified version won the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in the unlimited class in 2004. It was putting out 626kW with 949Nm of torque, and managed a staggering 0-200 in 6 seconds flat.
Not bad for a 20 year old 2.175L 4 cylinder engine, even if it is a Ford.
