I have a 89 rodeo, automatic transmission (I know, terrible).

Anyway, the ute holds gears for waaaaay too long. First gear is okay, but second onwards holds gears until I let go of the throttle completely (not just back off). Considering its an older motor, what would you guys assume this is. Do transmission belts need tuning, or does it seem like a vaccuum leak?

Also, if the revs get to about 3000 in second and I take my foot off the throttle, it may not change up until the revs are higher and I take my foot off again, although its a bit temperamental. Anyway, any advice for tuning this myself or a specific vaccuum hose/issue to check would be good. If its even intermediate level stuff, I'll take it to the mechanic. Thanks.

Car is over 20 years old, the box is probably pretty worn. Maybe take it to a transmission shop for a complete flush?

Auto bands aren't 'tuned' as far as I know, just changed.
