Been looking at a one owner (older couple) 190,000k 2011 v6 and it's like new except that the check engine light is on.
Anyone had this before and might know what might need need repairing to correct the problem for the safety certificate.

Been doing a little research on the check engine light and looks like I need to purchase a obd2 scanner to see what the codes are before handing over any money.

Would anyone know where the scanners can be purchased, we only have a Repco, Supercheap and a Bursons, how about an electronics store would they sell the scanners?

You mentioned the stores I thought of,
There are some good deals on eBay,
Where the OBD2 units work ok,
Depends how much you wish to spend.
Where about's is the car ?
Service History up to date ?
You indicated you are in Australia,
so we must assume it must be not far from you, but Australia has a lot soil.

On a side note,
if the MIL is on, where its indicating a Malfunction, one would assume that this would be a Roadworthy item,
that the seller would need to fix to obtain the Roadworthy.

Bought a Foxwell NT204 scanner from Repco $153.00 and already its saved me a bucket of money.
Scanner brings up several codes and none are an easy fix so I'm going to look for a VE or latter with no warnings on the dash.

They can be an easy fix if we know what the codes are so we can work through things.

If its as g good as you say, and being a 1 owner,
its got to be better than a 3 > 4 owner that thrashed the **** end out it,
that will require some serious work done it to get back to roadworthy condition,
Being a 1 owner, does it have a service history ?, if so, is it up to date ?,
If it is, that's got to be a plus.

Funny thing about this. When I bought the cheap VE Anniversity it had the engine light on so I got the notebook open and plugged the OBD 2 ELM 327 cable in and found I had a code P00521 which is the Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch and my oil press was very high like 880KPA at idle so after I go the car I bought from a ebay for $18 a new Ve V6 sensor, fiited it and all is ok, the Light went off, I have the Correct Oil Pressure at idle cold and hot and I have the correct oil pressure at 2500 RPM cold and hot.
Just a note. Most auction today dont allow you to go to checked the car they want to sell if you have any bags with you. Also I think they dont like you to take a Notebook Computer with you to check codes because there is a big difference between (Checking a VE V6) Code P00521 and Code P0018 and P0019 or P0008 but If you buy a blue tooth OBD 2 tool and download the free app or buy a better one for your Phone they wont know that.
