Hi guys, just seeking some advice on which cam to put in my engine. Currently getting my 308 stroked to a 355 and wondering if i should bump up the cam to a 288 or stick to the 286. Car is a weekend car only non drag/strip, is it worth getting some extra power from the 288? or is the 286 adequate ?

Thanks in advance

Is the 288 a solid cam? if it is just keep in mind it will need adjustments from time to time but the 286 is a hyd cam and is a set and forget item.
288 would make a little more power, If you wanted bigger but still hyd there is a 304 cam I believe.

Dead right about the 288 being solid. I think most people go for a 286 because its a bit of a cash saver. With this cam you can get away with single valve springs but if you want the solid or 304 hyd then you will have to take the heads off and get new valve spring seats machined to take doubles. If your going to fork the cash out for this and adjustable roller rockers, then id be going for a big solid!!

have to remember too that when you stroke it it will soften out the sound of the cam so it wont sound as lumpy as if the same cam was in 308 cubes

the 355 and the 286 make decent power with a good manifold.

mine made 230 at the wheels and a sh!tload of torque with low compression still

some guys with 10.5:1 comp are making round the 260-270rwkw mark

what was it like to drive tho.... cos he said its not for drag racing and is a streeter.... bigger cams are often not ideal for street driving
